Five times top fundraiser for Mother’s Day Classic

To mark the fifth anniversary of David Jones supporting the Mother’s Day Classic, 555 team members from across the business have run or walked in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation and smashed our fundraising target of $50,000 in the process.

Employees from all stores and support centre celebrated Mother’s Day by taking part in nine Mother’s Day Classic events around the country, from Brisbane to Melbourne, Newcastle to Perth. For the fifth consecutive year, David Jones was the largest team taking part in the event and, also for the fifth consecutive year, was the highest fundraising team with more than $58,000 raised so far.

Our largest ever team ran and walked alongside brand ambassadors Adam Goodes, Jessica Gomes, Jesinta Campbell and Montana Cox but this glamourous company was not the only highlight for many, with a large number of cancer survivors also in the crowd.

“We all felt privileged to walk beside many of those beautiful ladies, affected by cancer, and agreed it was the best morning out that we had in ages”, said Kotara Store Manager, Heather Mills. The team at the Newcastle event was joined by Ana Rowston, Shiseido Counter Manager, who is battling breast cancer herself. “Ana was overwhelmed with the amount of David Jones’ staff that attended the event and was very proud to walk with all of us”, adds Heather.

So a big thank you to all those who participated on the day and of course to everyone who supported our runners and walkers by making a donation. Thank you also to all our volunteers and delegates who played a key role in helping to make the day a success. The $58,000 we have raised together will help NBCF continue their vital research into breast cancer as they strive towards their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
