It’s been a hectic time on the international fashion stage. Rapt by the hype of the industry’s “big four” fashion weeks, we’ve been busy admiring the shows of New York, London, Milan and Paris from afar, taking note of what’s to come for Winter 2017. But this week we turn our attention to the Virgin Australian Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF), a sartorial spectacle far closer to home.
Last night David Jones helped to launch this year’s VAMFF proceedings, as presenting partner of the Gala Runway. Boasting the largest lineup of the festival, the flawlessly orchestrated show featured collections from Australia’s favourite designers, along with a sprinkling of much-loved international names.
Held at Melbourne’s striking Royal Exhibition Building, the runway starred David Jones Ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Jesinta Franklin, as well as leading Australian model Megan Irwin.
As for the fashion: the show began with a stunning embossed crocodile jacket by Australian designer Ellery, a jaw-dropping look that set the tone for the remaining runway display. Ensembles to follow featured statement pieces by David Jones latest designer recruits, including Christopher Kane, Karen Walker, Macgraw and White Story.
A dose of international designer talent was also on show, seen in a military inspired jacket from Alexander McQueen, a luxe brocade coat from Dries Van Noten, and a fire engine red pleated dress from Valentino.
With an impressive 201 looks in total, the Gala Runway did not disappoint, with guests departing the Royal Exhibition Building starry-eyed and ready to shop.
In celebration of the event that was, we want to share the 7 winter looks we really (truly) loved, ripped straight from the runway.
