Hello from JONES magazine. I am super excited to give you a sneak peek into some of the goings-on behind the scenes of our second issue.
First up, we managed to secure an exclusive interview and photo shoot with the perfect muse for summer, Isabel Lucas. With her boho look and big, open heart, she is something very special and I have no doubt you’re going to love her story and all the clothes she is wearing – swoon! We started our shoot at the crack of dawn and shot through to sunset and Isabel never complained once – a very humble, gracious star. Sometimes the less showy ones shine brightest don’t they? I have my eye firmly on the Lee Mathews linen suit (page 84) and the Manning Cartell dress (page 86) – both glorious (just need my horse and a stretch of beach!)
I was staring into space close to deadline and way past going-home time to come up with a line that would capture the essence of summer to open our fashion pages. My publisher happened by, looked at our mood board and started reciting Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18: “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” It was all the inspiration we needed and the team took off to Fiji with Shakespeare in their heads. So get ready to ditch the jumpers, jackets and layers as the summer season is revealed. Sunset dips in animal print bikini’s; evening wear shimmers by bonfire flame… grab your place in the sun with all our glorious resort wear – my fave a delicate lace top by Zimmerman (page 96).
The fashion mood right now is eclectic, so mix it up and keep logos, ruffles and florals top of mind.
We collaborated across the oceans, shooting the fashion director of Glamour magazine in NY Jillian Davison. She has been a mentor to Bassike designers Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan and their chat about her influence on the development of their label makes for a really interesting read. As is our piece on visionary thinker and award- winning architect Peter Stutchbury. He shares his personal build and we capture his thoughts on video and in print on the philosophy behind his work.
On a more serious note, author David Leser tackles the topical issue of the loneliness of men; so many wearing brave smiling faces but struggling underneath the surface. A very worthwhile read as we need to break down the stigma around mental health.
It’s a compelling issue with loads of features, creative people, glorious fashion, beauty advice, best-of-the-best Christmas buys plus the talented Neil Perry generously shares his festive family menu – Christmas sorted!
