Saturday night, 7pm. On any normal night, St James train station in the heart of Sydney, would have the party crowd transiting through to clubs and pubs in the city. But on 29 August, St James train station was where the party crowd was headed.
Transformed into an exclusive subterranean venue for the David Jones RE:Denim launch party, two doormen guarded the entrance to the station, ensuring entrance only to those invited. The darkly lit tunnel led to the mezzanine level, slightly eerie with all the ticketing booths closed but the turnstiles open, and RE:Denim posters the only indication this is the right place to be. Down to the steps, where commuters wait impatiently for the train on any other night, is the cavernous platform transformed into an underground rock concert venue.
There was an underground bar serving bespoke RE:Authentic Ale and cocktails, food stalls with cheeseburgers and reuben sandwiches, leather chesterfield sofas, and a large music stage featuring hot rock band, The Delta Riggs.
The band, recently awarded with the Rolling Stone Award for 'Live Act of the Year,' performed an hour-long set of hits to the crowd full of cool, creative types, like stylist Romy Frydman, MTV presenter Mimi Elashiry and a bevy of models like David Jones ambassador Montana Cox, Tahnee Atkinson, Jai Stevens, and Jordan Barrett. Also spotted were footballer Tom Derickx, stylist Pip Edwards and bloggers Kate Waterhouse and Harper & Harley's Sara Donaldson.
Hosted by international supermodel Erin Wasson, it was a party like no other, for one night only.
