Twice every year, the call out for models to walk for David Jones signals the beginning of the launch of a new season. For the upcoming Spring Summer ’16 season, the request for models came only a few weeks ago but hundreds turned up to try their luck for a chance to walk in one of Australia’s most anticipated fashion parades, the David Jones Collections Launch.
The first model casting* was held in Sydney at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Harbourside Room, where on any other day, the views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour would be the main attraction. But this morning, all eyes were on the judges: head stylist Kelvin Harries, Romance was Born designers Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett, and David Jones ambassador Jessica Gomes, who put the models through their paces and decide who makes it into the show.
“I’m looking for someone with spunk and that X-factor,” said Jess, who was dressed in new season Romance was Born. “But most of all, they have to be super confident.”
Some models were asked to walk in Jets swimwear, a pre-requisite for a Spring Summer parade; while the male models were chosen for their well-groomed, runway-esque looks.
If chosen, the stakes are pretty high for the aspiring models as they will get to walk alongside Jess and other David Jones ambassadors Jesinta Campbell, Montana Cox and Jason Dundas. Less than 50 will be selected to walk the runway and we can't wait to see who makes the cut.
*The second model casting will be held in Melbourne on 6 July at Docklands.
