How to layer when the weather won’t play nice

Don’t let a cool change ruin your fashion forecast.

1. Start with the basics

For layer number one, start off simple with a t-shirt or long sleeved knit. Experiment with lengths and necklines for subtle points of difference – scoop, V and turtle necks are our favourites for the cooler months. Tip: balance out the layers you’ll be wearing on your torso with some straight leg trousers or skinny jeans.

2. Pick a colour palette

Don’t let clashing colours ruin your style; stick to just one palette. Whether monochromatic, tonal, bold or pastel, keep to complementary colours to enhance your look. This season we’re loving the punchy primary palette at Tommy Hilfiger.

3. Play with texture

With a layered look there’s a lot going on, but that’s no reason to avoid texture. Think: cable knits teamed with woollen coats, tailored blazers under leather jackets, or soft floral dresses with opaque tights and ’90s inspired denim.
