Uniforms often get a bad rap; associated with school or blue collar jobs, or boring and devoid of personal expression. But think about it another way, uniforms are easy and simple, everything matches and you're out the door in minutes. More significantly, a uniform means that your clothes don't distract nor do they speak for you, providing you ultimate control over how and what you want to express.
Jac + Jack had the idea of a uniform in mind when creating their Winter 15 collection. Inspired by a Parisian exhibition on uniforms throughout history, they looked at historical documentation on schools, fire brigades, police, military and sporting clubs. "We also researched Rockabillys, Mods and Teddys - urban tribes with an urban uniform that reflect their ideas and lifestyle," said Jac Hunt, one half of the Jac+ Jack duo.
Top of the collection's colour palette is navy, a colour that had once been staid and stuffy, but is now this season's new black, alongside an elegant mix of parchment, grey marle, charcoal, and khaki. A wardrobe of uniform basics is one worth investing in, and do so this winter with luxurious knits in superfine wool and cashmere. "As it’s our 10 year anniversary collection we wanted to indulge in a series of luxurious, modern sweaters that ooze quality. It’s our brand DNA so we wanted to produce a collection that captured the beauty and softness of a sweater you love," adds Lisa Dempsey, who is the "Jack" half. "It's all about being effortless yet modern, and that's our kind of uniform."
