It's swimsuit season but there's no need to cringe at the thought of buying a new cosie. Put an end to impulsive buys (when you RSVP last minute to a pool party) or trendy but unflattering styles (one-size crochet styles do not suit everyone), and focus on finding the right swimsuit for your body shape. To help give expert guidance, we ask our swimwear buyers for tips on what to look for whether you're endowed with a petite, curvy or athletic body shape.
Your Body Shape: Your proportions are typically small, including around the bust.
Buyers' Tips: Look for details around the bust to create interest and balance overall proportions. Avoid plain colours and overly simple styling as it is less flattering.
Your Body Shape: Normally endowed with a full bust, hips and thighs; also known as an hourglass figure.
Buyers' Tips: Avoid high neck styles and horizontal styles as they make your shape wider. Look for swimwear with good bust support - it's important in swimwear as much as in lingerie. Having the right support also lifts the bust which elongates and slims the torso.
Your Body Shape: Your frame is typically quite slender with broad shoulders and a long torso.
Buyer's Tips: You'll suit a high-neck, one piece swimsuit but look for contrasting side panels to give your body shape. To contrast your boyish shape, look for feminine details and opt for smaller sized bottoms to give shape to your derrière. You can afford to go smaller in size to give illusion of shape.
