9 Things to Know About #ShotBySound
David Jones has amplified the relationship between fashion and music with its campaign #ShotbySound, which sees music shoot this season’s fashion campaign. Using a customised set and telemetric style cabling, the band was in control of 42 cameras. The cameras were triggered by the band’s voices and instruments, with every sound from the live performance of the artists, imagery was captured.
An incredible series of images have been produced featuring David Jones Ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox with Daniel Johns and his band playing alongside them.
Fashion, technology and art combine in this unique, exciting and inspiring collaboration, with Daniel Johns also releasing a music video captured on set with David Jones as his film clip for his new single, “We Are Golden” from the album TALK.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot and how it all came together:
1. The film set consisted of rig with cranes and metal scaffolding that gave the shoot an urban and industrial feel.
2. 42 cameras were controlled by 5 different instruments; from the drums to the keyboard to the harp, each instrument set off one of the cameras taking a candid, instantaneous shot of the moment.
3.The concept of sound-triggered cameras is a world-first and was created specifically for the #ShotBySound campaign. This includes the software code which takes the music as an input, converts this analog input to digital and tells all the cameras to take photos.
4.‘We are Golden’ is one of Daniel Johns’ favourite tracks from his album, TALK. “The song’s about triumph over adversity,” explains Daniel.
5.David Jones ambassador Jessica Gomes loved being part of the music video. “I’m really enjoying the film aspect of it and knowing how to move my body with the clothes and really getting into character,” said Jess at the time of the shoot.
6.The film fuses music with fashion, and features all Australian designers, including the best new season fashion from Ellery, Rachel Gilbert, Lover and Scanlan & Theodore.
7.Daniel Johns wears a gold sequinned jacket from Australian brand Jack London, a brilliantly appropriate piece for the song, we think.
8.The music video was shot by award-winning Sydney-based production company, Will O’Rourke, alongside director Pete Baker of Glue Society.
9.Worn by Montana Cox in the music video, hot new eco-label KitX makes its debut and will be stocked exclusively at David Jones from 1 August.
