There is a special kind of magic surrounding Aquazzura’s Edgardo Osorio. Even the historical Medici building he works from has an element of enchantment about it.
Aquazzura office space found its way into Osorio’s hands after a chance meeting with a member of the Corsini family, who bought the building off the famous Medici family some 500 years ago. Is there a more perfect setting to inspire such luxurious styles? Even the brand’s list of famous followers reads like a Met Gala guest list: Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, Rihanna, Solange Knowles, Emily Ratajkowski, Kate Bosworth and Olivia Palermo are among Aquazzura’s loyal devotees.
When Osorio’s first-ever design (the now cult-favourite “Sexy Thing” heel) first hit stores in 2013 it sold out instantly and built up a yearlong waiting list in just one month. The pompom-adorned “Wild Thing” was released a few seasons later and caused similar fervour. Does he have a trick to creating a cult style?

“You don’t really know when it’s an ‘It’ shoe or not. It’s not like you can set out to create it, but when you see a girl try a shoe on and you see everyone get excited in the showroom, you know there is something happening. It’s just magic.”
“When I do the fit trials on the models, most of the time the design changes. It really adapts to the foot,” he explains. “For me it’s about the fit, making the foot look beautiful.”
Making the foot look beautiful seems like Shoe Design 101, but the mastery with which Osorio weaves multi-strap details and innovative cuts genuinely lengthens the foot and leg – no mean feat.
