Every bit as sweet and feminine as the clothes she designs, It’s no surprise that Keepsake Head Designer Carmen Dugan is family-orientated and is especially close to her Mum.
At a special Mother’s Day shoot of Carmen with her Mum and sister Steph, we chat with the designer about her family, childhood dance routines and of course, style. Read on for Carmen’s stylish Mother’s Day gift picks.
Tell us about bond you have with your mum and sister. Are you close?
We are. I’ve always been really close with Mum. Steph and I used to fight a bit as kids, but usually only when she’d borrow my clothes without asking. We get along really well now… and share much better!
How has your mum inspired you in your life?
Mum has always supported me in everything I’ve set out to achieve. The generosity and selflessness with which she lives her life continues to inspire me everyday.
What's your favourite childhood memory with your family?
Steph and I used to always put on dance routines when Mum had friends over. That’s something that always comes back to me.
Does style and a love for fashion run in the family?
I think so! Mums always had a very clean sense of style and will usually pair long pants with a beautiful blouse or t-shirt. This has rubbed off on me a lot. My style is quite simplistic, either a simple black dress and boots to work, or relaxed fit high wasted jeans and a white tee on the weekends. Steph and I have pretty similar style but she injects a bit more vintage and denim into her daily rotation.
How are you going to celebrate Mother's Day this year?
The last couple of years we’ve had a Mother's Day brunch at my place, which generally extends into the afternoon. Just good food, wine and lots of family.
