JETS has unveiled their brand new summer swimwear collection, and we're pretty excited about it! From vibrant prints and daring cuts to more classic styles and colours - this new range has something for everyone. We spent five minutes with Jessika Allen, Design Director of JETS, to ask her what we might expect in swimwear trends this season and her tips on going swimwear shopping.
DJ: Tell us about this season’s collection for summer 14/15. What was the inspiration?
JA: Modern glamour meets ultra-cool; in this season’s Intuition Collection we’ve showcased a fresh approach while still remaining true to that JETS sophistication we all know and love. Soft gorgeous fabrics and a bold colour palette featuring amazing prints, the Intuition Collection was inspired by a new stylish time that illustrates irresistible beauty. Function meets fashion perfectly giving you a look that is very current. This season we’ve also really focused on offering women the complete look to perfect her off duty ensemble. She seeks pool-to-bar style that can be mixed or matched to create her own unique charm.
DJ: What are the trends for this season in swimwear?
JA: Trends you’ll be seeing include exotic florals, vibrant digital prints, punchy neoprene, sports luxe, modern stripes and one-pieces with sleek cut-outs and mesh inserts. Expect a timeless colour palette of black and white contrasted with the bright colours we’re also seeing this season. Dashes of fiery tones, tailored shapes and panelling take on a new sexy form. Athletic influences with high necklines, scuba-inspired shapes and silhouettes that incorporate mesh inserts, cut-outs and action backs are definitely leading the way for the ultimate in poolside style. Dresses, kaftans and other resortwear pieces have been a real growth area this summer; you will definitely be seeing women attaining that complete resort look.
DJ: What colour trends will we see this summer?
JA: Colour trends you’ll be seeing this summer include flamboyant splashes of Ultra Violet, dazzling Oceanic tones, refreshing Malibu Blue, Zesty Neons like Acid and Lava, feminine shades of Peony pink and clean yet cool White. Whether mixed, matched or incorporated in print, JETS have served up a strong palate of hi-tech colours mixed with minimalist melodies to invigorate your summer!
DJ: What will we be wearing poolside this season? What are the must-have shapes?
JA: While it’s always hard to pick my favourite, some amazing pieces to look out for in this season’s Intuition Collection include the sporty shape of the high neck Invigorate one- piece with side cut-outs and an action back. The photographic water wave compliments the natural curve of the body so it looks very flattering on. Another great piece is the Botanica neoprene wetsuit with cut-outs and white micro mesh. The punchy tropical print and zip-front make this both fashion-
forward and bold. As for a bikini look, the Elaborate bikini top with gorgeous V-wire design and Babushka-inspired mirrored embroidery paired with a contrast pant embodies modern style. Last but not least; the Intrigue Resortwear! Think hints of neon, knitted detailing and a Moroccan-inspired theme.
DJ: One-pieces or bikinis? What will be the swimsuit on everyone’s wish list?
JA: My vote for the go-to style is the one-piece! With low-cut backs, plunged necklines, cut-outs and flashes of skin in all the right places, the allure is that it can be just as sexy as a bikini. Both functional and fashionable, I predict it to be summer’s one-and-only. Top contenders for the most sought after styles include sleek pieces with sports luxe influences, high necklines and mesh inserts adding a hint of glamour. As for colour, statement-making monochrome or a bold popping hue!
DJ: With the weather warming up can you give us any hot tips for swimwear shopping?
JA: My golden rule for swimwear shopping is confidence. I always ensure I am in a good mood and am feeling my best before I spend time in the change room.
A healthy start to the day with a fresh breakfast and walk always helps. As does a sun-kissed glow! Another important factor is the selection process as this shouldn’t be rushed. Having an idea of what you want before you’re in-store helps too, as does remaining open-minded. Try on a variety of shapes, styles, colours and prints – don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!
