Five Minutes with Gary Bigeni

We had the chance to chat to designer Gary Bigeni about his inspiration for the Spring Summer 14/15 season and his favourite pieces from the new collection.

Describe your label in one word?

Confident

What was your inspiration when creating your Spring Summer ‘14/15 collection?

In this collection, I drew upon the beauty, strength and complexity of the women of ancient Greece and combined uniting his love for exquisite draping and beautiful fabric with a vibrant palette of bold blocked colour and with tailored clean lines to create an undeniably modern aura of fresh and inspired femininity. With this in mind, I also wanted to create wearable pieces made from high quality fabrics that were easy for any woman to introduce and incorporate into her existing wardrobe, like the perforated Italian cotton story.

Describe your favourite items from this season's coming collection?

A favourite item of mine for this summer would definitely be the elegant AGEM high waisted pencil skirt, featuring the exclusive marshmallow/blue gradient print by artist, Eduardo Santos!

What makes Gary Bigeni unique?

It is beautifully designed, Australian made, wearable clothing with no quality compromise. If Gary Bigeni (the brand) were to be included within the dictionary, she would be defined as:  adj. A style leader: she asserts her presence and femininity through empowered dressing that follows nobody else’s rules but her own.

What's on your mood board for AW15?

Refined lines, controlled drape and effortless elegance define the Gary Bigeni Autumn/Winter 2015 collection. Sophisticated cuts are paired with luxury fabrications such as silk, wool and fine Italian cottons in a palette accentuated with dark ink and olive tones, earthy neutrals and the essential black. This season Gary Bigeni continues its collaboration with Australian based Brazilian artist Eduardo Santos, whose abstract landscape paintings are adopted to form ethereal print imagery. For Autumn/Winter 2015 the Gary Bigeni signature is preserved with modern silhouettes and understated complexities that cleverly translate into a versatile everyday wardrobe.
