Week three into the new season and I can already see a flurry of new season pieces being showcased on the streets of Sydney. The unique way in which a person takes a garment and makes it their own will always continue to inspire me – it is one of the reasons I love what I do.
One of the latest trends that I have seen transition from runway to the streets is the ever fun, and eternally playful sports luxe. This trend is a perfect illustration of when glamour meets action and adventure in all the right ways. Derived from athletic influences, sports luxe can be a simple answer to the days when you don’t want to forgo the comfort but refuse to lose the lustre in your ensemble.
If you’re not sure where to start, the new season range from designer label Jac + Jack will provide you with the tools to perfectly articulate your sports luxe look. Leaders in understated sophistication, the way they take simple designs and translate them into on-trend statement pieces is truly incredible. The Anja Coat is one of my favourite garments from their new collection and encompasses everything that sports luxe has evolved to represent – effortless luxury. Team this superb coat with a high top converse sneaker for a dynamic daytime look, and adjust to the Willow Pointed-Toe Pump by Kenneth Cole New York for a smooth transition into night. It is easy to see why one of the most appealing facets of the sports luxe trend is its inherent ability to transform any look with a simple footwear change.
If you tend to err on the luxe side of sporty, you will be elated with the new season wears from one of our favourite designers here at David Jones, Josh Goot. His Spring Summer 2014 range brilliantly embodies what an astute designer can do with a trend based collection. Every piece has been carefully crafted in a monochromatic colour pallet, with no detail left unturned. A must have piece from this collection is the Clean Cotton Drill Dress, with its abstract grid design panels and meticulously arranged lines this look will safely guide you through any occasion.
Sports luxe is not about mixing two classic trends, it is about two very different aesthetics coming together to create something wonderful and new. Reinvigorating the fundamentals of comfort and luxury and then expressing them through a mixture of textures, cuts and colours is a great achievement for any designer or individual. Beautiful things often come to fruition when opposites attract, embrace it.
