Three weeks ago marked one of David Jones’ most coveted events of the year – the prestigious new season Spring/Summer Fashion Launch
. Each year I anticipate what our wonderful team will do, with every new season comes a bolder concept and a more adventurous tone to awe our guests and take the show to a whole new level.
This season was no exception, with a magnificent white loop de loop runway that showcased not only our stunning ambassadors Jessica Gomes and Montana Cox, but also the season’s freshest cuts, colours and Australian designer trends.
Over the coming weeks, as we slowly edge our way back to the warmth of spring, I will be sharing my top new season trends inspired straight from the runway. There is nothing that I love more than seeing the showcased fashion launch designs translate their way into the wardrobes of our incredible customers, who go on to make each piece their own.
The first and more classic trend I will explore off the runway is white. This distinguished crisp colour with its elegant and timeless qualities never ceases to amaze me, even more so when I see it used to transcend vintage-inspired looks into contemporary ensembles with a twist. An almost flawless illustration of this can be embodied in this opulent prima ballerina dress by Carla Zampatti.
Another standout designer who has captured the all-white philosophy to a tee this season is Ellery’s Resort 15’ - what a fabulous collection indeed. With an array of statement pieces that speak from their clean lines and established forms, Ellery has cleverly conveyed a subtle sophistication, unique to each one of her designs. A prominent focus on bell sleeves and mid length architecture also sees a reinvigoration of the old to the new, truly representing the way a colour can collaborate with structure to re-invent itself.
Continuing this trend and embracing the beauty of simplicity that is found in an all-white pallet, are a number of talented Australian labels including Lover, CAMILLA AND MARC, and of course the ever understated yet equally confident Bassike. Whist these coveted designers have veered away from an all-white collection, they are still aware of the allure of an all-white garment, especially as we head towards the warmer months.
Remember, being bold and adventurous with new trends doesn’t always mean colour, push the boundaries with your all-white look by matching your accessories too. Sometimes head to toe statement matching can be just what the season ordered. Let your all-white ensemble be the catalyst to your fresh start and lay the way for new beginnings.
