It all started with a hat. Before Rails became known for making plaid shirts cool and a staple in our festival wardrobe, founder and CEO Jeff Abrams started the brand with a single piece of headwear. That was in 2008, and now Rails is sold at top international retailers, worn by a loyal following of celebrities and tastemakers, and our go-to brand for that casual-cool Southern California style.
Fresh from his tour of the brand's stockists around the world, including here in Australia, we chat with Jeff on what's next for Rails and how he's a city boy at heart.
What is it about the plaid shirt that makes it so popular with the ladies?
They are great as layering pieces - worn casually layered with a tank or as a lightweight summer jacket in warmer climates.
What do you think of Australian style?
I was recently in Australia and I fell in love with the people, landscape and design sensibility. There are many similarities between Southern California and Australian style! I love the relaxed yet directional nature of Australian women's fashion. She can easily make a considered look feel easy and effortless.
Which Australian celebrities would you like to see wearing Rails?
Margot Robbie, Rose Byrne, and Naomi Watts.
What's on the horizon for Rails?
Each season we are expanding the women's collection and introducing new categories, silhouettes, and fabrics. We're excited for our super soft jersey knits and complete denim collection, along with Little Rails and Men's.
