Five Minutes with Anthea Crawford

With the Spring Racing season around the corner and a focus on florals these past few weeks, we thought we would have a chat to designer Anthea Crawford, whose spring summer 14 collection focuses on beautiful botanical prints that are also perfect for a day at the races. Take a look below at some of Anthea's current season designs, which are available at selected David Jones stores, and read about what inspires her!

Describe your label in one word?

What was your inspiration when creating your Spring Summer ‘14/15 collection?

Our summer collection infused the perfect blend of colours and prints - all things botanical from delicate oriental orchids to exotic butterflies. It was about working with the contrast of soft and strong colours together.

Describe your favorite items from this season’s coming collection?

My favourite piece is a digitally printed silk organza dress in white and black. It details a flowing high-low hemline, creating a beautiful translucent silhouette. It is one of those pieces that transverses from a day at the races, to evening parties with ease.

What makes your label unique?

Our brand is based on integrity of design and use of exclusive fabrics. We are predominately Australian made and our devotion to fit is uncompromising. Our customers are well advised and appreciate our design principles.

What will dominate your personal wardrobe this season?

My wardrobe is built on classic pieces, punched up with striking accessories. A navy sculptural crepe dress is a must have and works exceptionally well with saturated brights or pastel colours. A dress that transitions seamlessly from day to evening is essential to my wardrobe.

What’s on your mood board for AW15?

I am definitely inspired by all things in nature – woodlands, landscapes, insects and florals to name a few. Texture is a key element for my upcoming winter range, as well as modern design lines. The Bauhaus design principles are an amazing influence on my current designs.
