Your Dior dreams are about to come true.
Our Dior pop-up collection is en route to two flagship David Jones stores – first stop, Elizabeth Street, Sydney. The exclusive range will showcase the house’s autumn winter 2017-2018 collection, and needless to say, we’re incredibly excited.
In celebration of the pop-up – the first of its kind in Australia – we’re here to share three things you may not know about the ready-to-wear collection.
1. It was an exploration of one of Monsieur Dior’s favourite colours
Blue, the colour symbol of power, beauty and spirituality, is used liberally throughout the collection, appearing in myriad shades. Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri immersed herself in the complexity of the hue, due largely to its infinity with all kinds of uniforms. “The colour gives you the opportunity to create your own personal uniform,” the designer said. Because if you’re going to create your own look, why wouldn’t you make it Dior?
2. It all began with 1949
A hooded dress from Monsieur Dior’s Haute Couture Autumn Winter ’49 season informed much of the latest collection. Inspired by the garment’s ample hood, borrowed from the tunics of pastors, Chiuri created a series of jackets, skirts, dresses and coats that revisited the extravagance of the cloak-like silhouette with a more contemporary twist. Archival Dior meets the spirit of the modern day woman; a match made in heaven.
3. It brought back the béret
Each look in the runway show was complemented by an edgy leather béret, re-launching the ultimate Parisian accessory into the limelight. We can’t think of a better reason to invest in one of fashion’s all-time greatest accessories.
Dior pop-up: save the date
The Sydney pop-up collection will be open from 9 to 21 August 2017, followed by Melbourne from 25 August to 25 September 2017, with each celebrating Maria Grazia Chiuri’s third collection for Dior.
