Dior Senior Makeup Artist Farah tells us how to get a gala-worthy look
The National Gallery of Victoria’s exhibition The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture has been open for almost a week now, but we still can’t get over the beauty on display at the show’s glamorous gala opening.
Our favourite look: Jesinta Franklin in breathtaking Dior couture, walking the red carpet with a red lip worthy of the silver screen.
Taking inspiration from Jesinta’s gown, Dior Senior Makeup Artist Farrah created a look that embodied the grandeur of the occasion: a glowing, dewy bronzed look with a knock-out statement lip.
Here, Farah talks us through how she achieved Jesinta’s red carpet glamour.
COMPLEXION
For her complexion Jesinta wanted a dewy finish, so I used our Prestige Fluid Foundation 030 – Jesinta loved its rose scent! Prestige fluid provides medium to full coverage with a dewy finish.
Flash Luminizer 002 was also used to brighten under the eyes.
I then applied Nude loose powder (030) for a natural tanned complexion, using a lighter shade (020) to set and brighten under the eyes.
Nude air luminizer 001 provided Jesinta’s soft glow, without the glitter pigment.
Dior Nude tan 001 was also used; built up gradually to be effective in front of the camera, while maintaining a fresh and natural look.
EYES
I used our Dior nude tan (bronzer) as a base colour for Jesinta’s eyeshadow; this gave depth and warmth.
The darkest colour of our 5 Couleurs Designer Artistry Palette in 797 Feel was then applied to create depth in the outer corner of the eye.
Next, I combined our Fall Look Metalizer in 528 Platine Fusion (Champagne) and 548 Copper Power, applying to the inner corner of the eye and the centre of the lid.
Jesinta was drawn to the Copper tones, wanting it to be a part of her overall look. All products were applied in gentle patting motions with a brush to achieve a glowing effect.
No lid liner was used on the eyes, so that the eyes were fresh. This brought the focus back to Jesinta’s beautiful full lashes. Instead, I used a dark eye shadow from the feel palette on the lash line.
To prep and lengthen the lashes, lash maximizer was applied first, then Pump ‘n’ Volume mascara.
As a finishing touch, beige kohl liner was used in the waterline to open up the eyes.
LIPS
First I applied our Lip Glow Sugar scrub to exfoliate and soften Jesinta’s lips.
For the colour, Dior’s iconic 999 lip liner and Dior rouge 999 were used. This initial layer was then darkened with Rouge Dior 999 Matte for extra depth.
FINAL TOUCHES
To set the look, I used One Essential Mist, to increase radiance and glow.
