Beauty often doesn't rank high on our list of New Year's resolutions but it's just as important to review our skin and beauty routines and make sure bad habits don't stick around for another year.
One of the techniques for committing to a resolution is to make affirmative statements and avoid grand and overly ambitious declarations that require a major overhaul of some kind. So we've come up with five beauty vows for the new year that are easy enough to add to your regular beauty routine. Prepare to be surprised come June when you realise these vows have become habits.
1. I vow to always take my makeup off before bed.
I know what you're thinking, this one's a no-brainer. But there's always going to be that time when you're too tired and think, "just this once". No matter how exhausted you are, make the effort to cleanse and remove your makeup before going to sleep; it will be worth it in the morning (no one thinks panda eyes are sexy) and in the years to come.

2. I vow to wear suncreen, every single day.
Whether you're in your 20s, 30s, 40s or older, the first step to preventing early signs of aging is to wear sunscreen every day regardless of season, temperature or cloud cover.

3. I vow to replace my mascara every three months.
Mascara wands are a haven for bacteria as it's stored in a dark and wet environment, while regularly getting exposed to particles in the air, especially when you pump the wand into the tube. Mascara formulations also congeal and expire after a few months. Prevent unwanted eye infections by replacing your mascara every 3 months - that's only 4 times a year so make a note in your calendar now.

4. I vow to wash my makeup brushes regularly.
Factor in excess dirt, plus yesterday’s oil and make-up, and you’re left with one not-so-nice collection of grossness that you’re rubbing all over your face if you don’t cleanse your makeup brushes. Regularly washing your brushes also extends their life and we know, they can be pretty pricey. Dermatologists advice a quick clean daily, but if you can't be bothered, once a week is a good place to start.

5. I vow to try a new makeup colour/technique/look.
Guilty of wearing the same makeup day in and day out? It's hard to break out of old habits but an easy way to refresh your look for the new year is as simple as trying on a new shade of lipstick or swapping your black eyeliner with a dark blue or brown.
