Face oils may seem counter-intuitive, especially in the summer. But this beauty product could be exactly what your skin needs for ultimate hydration while leaving you with soft, supple skin. Not convinced? DJs Beauty Advisor Kate Porteous is on hand to answer all your skeptical questions.
Why should I use face oils?
Face oils are filled with antioxidants and act as the skins lipid barrier to protect the skin from stress, pollution, climate and over cleansing. Essentially it keeps the bad stuff out and the moisture in!
Should I swap my moisturiser for face oil?
No, if anything it will help your moisturiser work better. If you have dry skin, use the oil before or apply a few drops in the moisturiser. If you have combination or oily skin, only apply it to really dry areas, or choose a formula that is part-oil, part-serum.
Try Absolue Precious Essence Oleo Serum from Lancome or Lotus Face Treatment Oil from Clarins (pictured below, from left to right).
How should I incorporate face oils into my beauty routine?
They act as a carrier for your other treatment products helping them work deeper within the skin. You can use it in the morning by adding a drop or two of the face oils into your moisturiser or serum. Or you can use it at night to cleanse and moisturise your face, giving your skin time to fully absorb the super-powered ingredients while you’re getting your beauty sleep.
Try Divine Youth Oil by L'Occitane; Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil by Clinique; or Fabulous Face Oil by Aesop.
I get sweaty and sticky in the summer, should I really apply face oil in the summer?
Sweat and oil are two different things that come from different glands. Using face oil reduce excess sebum production as your skin becomes hydrated, reducing its natural oil output. Oils are also high in antioxidants, which is very important in the summer, because our skin is broken down from free radicals when we are exposed to the sun and air pollution.
Are face oils anti-aging?
Yes, they provide moisture which means you are less prone to fine lines and wrinkles. It also gives your skin a hydrated and dewy glow, and who doesn’t want that?
Try The Renewal Oil by La Mer; Black Rose Precious Face Oil by Sisley; or Resilience Lift Restorative Radiance Oil by Estee Lauder (pictured below, from left to right).
Will it leave my skin oily?
Not if you choose one that is right for your skin. There is a wide range available, from multi-tasking products to luxe elixirs to natural-based oils.
