Delivery and Handling Fees

Enjoy complimentary standard delivery within Australia on your purchases when you use your David Jones American Express and David Jones Storecard (excludes purchases of Gift Cards, wine club, hampers and large items).

Delivery and handling fee for Gift Cards is $4.95
Standard delivery and handling is $9.95

Delivery Timelines

We know you want your purchases as quickly as possible. We will despatch merchandise and Gift Cards within one business day from your order date.

When you reach the checkout, you will be given a calculated delivery date based on the delivery postcode. Below is a guide for delivery timelines.

For delivery to: NSW, VIC, ACT, QLD
2-4 business days

For delivery to: SA, WA, NT, TAS
5-7 business days

Nominated Dates for Delivery

For your convenience, we can delay the delivery date of your order (except on weekends and public holidays). This complimentary service is perfect if you are sending a gift for a specific date, or you know there are days when you won’t be at home to accept the order.

Choose the date you’d like your order delivered when you reach checkout.
Please Note: You may nominate a date for delivery, however this date is nominated only and cannot be guaranteed.

Delivery Guidelines

For queries regarding the delivery date for a specific address please contact the Online Customer Service Team on 1800 354 663.

The recipient, or anyone authorised to accept the goods on their behalf, must be present when the order is delivered. If there is no one at the address or no one willing and able to receive the order, a calling card will be left for you to collect the order from the Post Office.

Hampers containing alcohol must be purchased in accordance with the Liquor Act: It is an offence to sell or supply to or obtain liquor on behalf of a person under the age of 18 years. Proof of age must be supplied on request. A person under 18 years must not take delivery of any hampers containing alcohol.

Hampers containing alcohol must be intended as a gift for another person.

Risk and title in the goods passes to the recipient upon delivery of the goods to your nominated Delivery Address.

When you shop with David Jones, you enjoy confidence – the confidence of knowing that if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can simply return it to any David Jones store and we will provide you with an exchange, refund or repair within the guidelines outlined below.

This policy applies to all purchases made from David Jones, instore or online.

Proof of Purchase

Please note that all returns, refunds, exchanges or repair requests must be accompanied by any of the following Proof of Purchase documents:

  • Original register receipt (no photocopies accepted)
  • Proof of Purchase (included with your delivery for items purchased online)
  • Original return/exchange receipt
  • David Jones Store Card statement
  • David Jones American Express Card statement

Change of mind

If you have changed your mind about your purchase, David Jones will be pleased to offer you a refund or exchange provided that:

  • You have produced satisfactory Proof of Purchase; and
  • The item is in resaleable condition (i.e. the original tags and labels are still attached, the item is in its original packaging (if any), and the item is unworn, unused and as sold); and
  • The item is not a Special Exception (see below):

If you are unable to provide satisfactory Proof of Purchase, David Jones may, in its absolute discretion, provide you with an exchange to the current value of the item provided that:

  • The item is in resaleable condition (i.e. the original tags and labels are still attached, the item is in its original packaging (if any), and the item is unworn, unused and as sold); and
  • We can verify that the item was originally purchased from David Jones; and
  • The item is not a Special Exception (see below); and
  • Satisfactory Identification is presented at the time of the return.

In the circumstance where you are unable to exchange an item, subject to authorisation from a David Jones Manager, David Jones may in its absolute discretion provide you with a David Jones Returns Card to the current value of the item.

Consumer guarantees

As a consumer, you are entitled to the benefit of statutory consumer guarantees in respect of items purchased from David Jones. In accordance with Australian Consumer Law, if the item has a major failure, you may reject the item and seek a refund or exchange, or you may keep the item and seek compensation for any drop in the value of the product.

Satisfactory Identification

David Jones will accept:

  • A current Drivers Licence, including Learners permit with photograph;
  • Proof of Age card that is approved by the Government with photograph and signature within the seal;
  • Blind Citizens Card with photograph;
  • Australian or International Passport;
  • Police, Government or Armed Services sealed identification card with photograph and signature within the seal;
  • Pension cards for aged, invalid widows, supporting parents and carers; and
  • David Jones American Express or Store Card with signature on the reverse as satisfactory identification.


Bonus items/Gift Cards/Bundled items

All gift cards or bonus items attached to the purchased products, or all elements of any bundled items, must also be returned with the original purchase. If not, the value of any such unreturned gift card, bonus or bundled item, or utilised portion of any gift card will be deducted from any refund.

Special Exceptions

Please choose carefully as we do not offer exchange or refund on the following items unless the item is faulty, significantly different from what was shown to you, not doing what it is supposed to do, in breach of manufacturer's warranties or consumer guarantees or where otherwise required by law.

Return Locations

The quickest and easiest way to return a product, whether purchased online or instore, is to go to any David Jones store (excluding David Jones warehouse outlets at Birkenhead Point Store or Harbour Town Store). 

For products purchased online, you may also return the item by sending it to:

Please include your completed Return Slip on the back of your Proof of Purchase with your goods. A Customer Relations Online Assistant will call you to process your return once the goods have been received. David Jones will not reimburse postage costs for returned items unless the item is faulty.

Gift Registry Returns

To return items purchased from a Gift Registry an appointment must be made with a Gift Registry consultant so that they can provide you with the information required to facilitate your return. To make an appointment please contact your original Gift Registry location. All Gift Registry returns will be managed in line with this Returns Policy.

Payment Method

We will refund using your original payment method, or, where appropriate and at David Jones’ sole discretion, on a David Jones Returns Card.
