Credit Cards and Credit Plans

  • What is a credit card?

Credit cards offer a revolving line of credit, this means that you can carry a balance from month to month rather than having to pay the amount owing in full.

Each time you use a credit card, you are essentially taking out a loan. And card issuers require that
at least the minimum amount due is paid by the due date every month.

If you choose to pay your balance in full and on time, interest charges will not be applicable. Interest charges accrue on balances that are not paid in full.

TIP: If you have an outstanding balance carried over from the previous month, by paying your monthly bill earlier than the due date, you can save money on interest charges.

  • What is a credit plan

From time to time, David Jones may offer cardholders credit plans such as an interest free instalment credit option or a deferred payment promotion for purchases made on a David Jones American Express Card or David Jones Storecard in a David Jones store.

Where available, the cardholder may choose a credit plan or promotion that will apply to that purchase.
When an interest free instalment credit option or deferred payment promotion is offered, David Jones will specify:

    - the relevant features of the interest free instalment credit option or deferred payment promotion (for example, the number of months of the deferred payment period);
    - the timeframe for which the interest free instalment credit option or deferred payment promotion is offered; and
    - any conditions (such as a minimum deposit requirement or a limit on the departments eligible for the instalment credit option or deferred payment promotion).

  • What is a Deferred Payment Promotion?

A deferred payment promotion is available when you make certain purchases at David Jones on a David Jones American Express Card or the David Jones Storecard.

A deferred payment period begins on the date of purchase. It ends on the corresponding date in the calendar month which is the number of specified months after the date of purchase. If there is no corresponding date in that month, it ends on the last day of the month. There are two types of deferred payment promotions – Fashion Pay Later Option and Christmas Deferred Payment Option.

Fashion Pay Later Option is a deferred payment promotion available on all purchases of men’s and women’s apparel, shoes and fashion accessories made at David Jones on a David Jones American Express Card or David Jones Storecard with a single transaction value of $500 or more. The deferred payment period is 3 months.

The Christmas Deferred Payment Option is a deferred payment promotion available for purchases made at David Jones on a David Jones American Express Card or the David Jones Storecard between 1 November and 24 December, and the deferred payment period ends on 31 January in the following year. The first month (the payment month) in which you will be required to pay for the purchases on Christmas Deferred Payment Option will be February following the Christmas season.

  • What is an Interest Free Instalment Credit Option?

From time to time, David Jones may offer an interest free instalment credit option. When an interest free instalment credit option is offered, David Jones will specify the number of months that applies to the instalment credit option (for example, a 12, 18 or 24-month instalment credit option). No interest is payable provided that you pay the minimum payment, including monthly instalments, by the due date.

For each purchase under an instalment credit option, we divide the purchase (less any amounts applied to the purchase prior to the first statement date) into a number of equal monthly instalments. The number of instalments is equal to the number of months specified for the instalment credit option. In each of the months specified for the instalment credit option, we add a credit plan instalment to your standard plan balance and minimum payment.

We include the first instalment in your statement of account for the period which includes the date of purchase.
