Sophie Lowe isn’t just that girl you’ve seen on TV and at the cinemas; she’s a musician in the making. Creating tunes for as long as she’s been acting, she’s known for her role in the film Beautiful Kate alongside Rachel Griffiths and Ben Mendelsohn, you can now get to know her music when you tune in to the likes of Triple J and Australian music institution “Rage”.
What do you think style is?
It’s a way to express yourself, your creativity and personality. But sometimes there are those days that you can’t. It’s one thing to say it shows your personality, but sometimes you have bad day.
Your favourite silhouette?
I like a masculine vibe. I like suits and fine lines, but with a touch of femininity. I wear lots of jumpsuits and things like that.
How long have you been making music for?
I’ve been writing songs for 10 years. I’ve only started to show people and it’s kind of scary because music is so personal to me. It’s hard because I’m still trying to figure myself out. [Unlike acting,] I’m not hiding behind someone with a character.
What’s the best thing about making music?
I love it because I can write wherever I go.
I just released a video clip for my second EP for a song called “Understand” which I directed with my friend Dean Francis. I’m really excited to see it out.
Your favourite bands?
I’m really into FKA twigs and Little Dragon. I also love Fiona Apple’s lyrics and Robyn because she’s so pop but her lyrics are so meaningful and touching.
