David Jones, in partnership with BreastScreen NSW and the Royal Hospital for Women, is proud to continue its support of The Rose Clinic, a unique instore health-screening clinic for women.

The Rose Clinic provides a range of health services for women: mammography, blood pressure monitoring, blood tests and heel ultrasound screening to assist in the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

The aim of the The Rose Clinic is to make these vital health screens more accessible for women. The environment is welcoming and comfortable, and the services are absolutely free. All women are welcome, especially if you are aged between 50 and 69.

Our partners in The Rose Clinic are experts in their fields. The government-funded BreastScreen NSW provides free screening mammograms to help with the early detection of breast cancer. The Royal Hospital for Women is the only specialist women’s hospital in New South Wales, and has an outstanding reputation for care.

The best time to treat breast cancer is when it is still very small. It may be years before you or your doctor notice anything is wrong. A breast screen (screening mammogram) can find problems early. A screening mammogram can not stop you from getting breast cancer, but it can give you a better chance of successful treatment.

You will be welcomed by our BreastScreen NSW receptionist, asked to fill in a form and then shown to a private change room where you will undress to the waist. A radiographer will take your screening mammogram. Each breast is positioned carefully on the screening machine and the pictures are taken.
Two specifically trained doctors will examine the screening mammogram.
BreastScreen NSW is a government funded organisation set up to provide a free screening mammogram every two years to women aged 50 to 69. BreastScreen NSW is part of a nationwide program to provide high quality screening mammograms. As BreastScreen gives priority to women aged 50 to 69 years, women aged 40 to 49 and 70 years and over may have to wait for a suitable appointment time to become available.

Your results should be sent to you in about 2 weeks. Please advise BreastScreen NSW if you do not receive them. Your results will also be sent
to your doctor unless you have requested otherwise. If you need further
tests, BreastScreen NSW will give you more information when they contact you.

The BreastScreen Australia Program specifically targets women aged 50 to 69 years. This is because it is in this age range that mammographic screening is most effective in saving women’s lives. For this reason, BreastScreen NSW only sends reminder letters to these women every two years. Women aged 40 to 49 and 70 years and over are eligible to attend for screening and are welcome to phone for an appointment. If you do not want to receive reminder letters, please advise BreastScreen NSW. To contact BreastScreen NSW for further enquiries or information phone 13 20 50.
A specialist women’s health nurse from the Royal Hospital for Women will
provide the following health checks, at no charge.
A simple heel ultrasound may identify abnormalities, and assist in early
diagnosis of osteoporosis (a common and significant problem for women).
This is a simple test that can be performed in a few minutes, using a
portable machine. This test cannot diagnose osteoporosis but may indicate
the need for more formal evaluation and diagnostic testing at a Bone Densitometry Unit.
Using a simple finger prick test it is possible to provide initial screening test
results for blood sugar and cholesterol. This is not a complex procedure and
can readily be undertaken in conjunction with other screening activities.
Results are available immediately.
This is a quick and easy screening activity that gives you instant feedback.
In conjunction with appropriate professional health counselling, it is an ideal
opportunity to get some healthy lifestyle advice.

If follow up is required, you will be referred to your general practitioner.
Early diagnosis is your best defence against osteoporosis.

Due to the success and demand for the BreastScreen services at The Rose Clinic appointments are necessary. Please phone BreastScreen NSW on
